Day seven of ten serial days was performed once again in excellent weather conditions. Six serials were conducted in the Bay of Taranto and there were as per usual no mishaps of injuries.

The following types of serial were performed,

SURVEYEX - The approach and survey of a distressed submarine by divers.

MATEX - The mating and de-mating of a submarine rescue chamber with a distressed submarine.

RESCUEX - The rescue of personnel from a distressed submarine.

PODEX - The posting of a POD to resupply essential life support stores, by passing the POD through either an escape trunk or torpedo tube.

VENTEX - This is where the distressed submarine is ventilated from the surface through a salvage air system.

SPAGEX - The Submarine Parachute Assistance Group exercise.

ESCAPEX – Personnel escape from a distressed submarine using Immersion Suits.

SEARCHEX – The process of searching for a missing submarine.

COORDEX – Choreographed process of rescuing personnel from a distressed submarine with two or more assets.

The Italian ship (ITS) ANTEO and Motor Vessel (MV) FENNICA today conducted a COORDEX. The exercise was performed on the Dutch submarine (HNLMS) DOLFIJN for a total of 11 hours in 67 metres of water. The LR5, operating off of FENNICA, completed it’s 1000th dive successfully with the SRV300 completing two simulated RESCUEXs with five observers onboard for each run.

The Turkish Submarine PREVEZE took part in a PODEX and SURVEYEX as the distressed submarine. Two ships, the Dutch ship (HNLMS) MERCUUR and the Ukranian ship (UKR) KREMENETS carried out the exercises in 42 metres of water for a total of six hours.

The Spanish (SPS) NEPTUNO, Russian ship (RFS) SHAKTYOR and the Italian ship (ITS) PRIMO LONGOBARDO conducted a SURVEYEX in 34 metres of water. The LONGOBARDO was on the bottom for seven and a half hours during which time a 25 minute Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) inspected the submarine.  LONGOBARDO was surveyed as well by six SCUBA teams with divers from Spain, Russia and Greece.

The Spanish submarine SPS SIROCO was bottomed for 14 hours in 40 metres of water in order for a COORDEX to take place between the United States ship (USS) GRASP and the French ship (FS) AILETTE. It was the first time that the US and French have conducted joint operations and it was a huge success. The French Advanced Diving Suit (ADS) connected and disconnected the Submarine Rescue Chamber (SRC) downhaul cable at a depth of 28 metres. A RESCUEX was then conducted from SIROCO with two SRC dives in total. Four surface supplied air dives also took place to a maximum depth of 40 meters with a total bottom time of 67 minutes.
