10 serials were conducted off the Italian coast with excellent warm weather, flat seas and a o.5Knot Southerly current.

 

 

 

The following serials were conducted,

SURVEYEX - The approach and survey of a distressed submarine by divers.

MATEX - The mating and de-mating of a submarine rescue chamber with a distressed submarine.

RESCUEX - The rescue of personnel from a distressed submarine.

PODEX - The posting of a POD to resupply essential life support stores, by passing the POD through either an escape trunk or torpedo tube.

VENTEX - This is where the distressed submarine is ventilated from the surface through a salvage air system.

SPAGEX - The Submarine Parachute Assistance Group exercise.

The UK Vessel of Oppurtunity (VOO) FENNICA with the UK operated LR5 performed a SURVEYEX, MATEX and RESCUEX with the Italian Submarine LONGOBARDO. 2 US Navy divers participated in this exercise.

ITS ANTEO performed a SURVEYEX, VENTEX and RESCUEX with the Turkish submarine PREVEZE. This serial involved using the Submarine Rescue Craft (SRC) and divers from Italy, Turkey, Israel and the USA.

 

The French ship AILETTE carried out a SURVEYEX and PODEX with the Netherlands submarine DOLFIJN including supporting divers from Spain. Divers from USA, Canada, Greece and the Netherlands observed the operation.

USS GRASP performed ADS Ops, SURVEYEX and MATEX with a target plate using the US SRC and ADS.

The Spanish Ship Neptuno conducted the emergency recovery of submarine escapees from the Spanish submarine Siroco. The Russian ship SHAKYTOR, Greek divers and Russian divers supported the operation.

Other serials today included jumps by the Italian SPAG team with gear and the UK SPAG team.

Various medical briefs took place onboard the ITS San Giusto disscussing, Review of US, UK and Italian medical assets, History of submarine rescue, Outlines of serial and expectations of the exercises and an overview of upcoming operations.
